If you dream of home ownership, can afford a $350-$500 a month, and are willing to pitch in and work, you need to know about the Habitat for Humanity program. Lafayette Habitat for Humanity (LHFH) is opening up applications for its Homeownership Program beginning in February. Application meetings will be held at the Heymann Park Recreation Center Gym on Friday, February 1st, 2013 from 6:00-7:30pm, and on Friday, February 8th, 2013 from 6:00-7:30pm. Applications will be available at the meetings and from the Lafayette Habitat website or office beginning February 1st.

Habitat homes are sold to participants of its Homeownership Program for no profit. The sale is financed with an interest-free 20-30-year mortgage loan. Homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.

LHFH’s Homeownership Program is not a giveaway. Habitat partner families make a down-payment and monthly mortgage payments. Partner families also invest hundreds of hours of their own labor in building their Habitat house.

LHFH is an equal housing lender, and follows a non-discriminatory policy of family selection. LHFH does not consider race, religion, gender, age, familial status, source of income, or national origin when selecting partner families.

Applications will be available beginning Friday, February 1st, 2013. Applications are due to the LHFH office by Friday, March 8th, 2013. To receive an application, please attend an application meeting, visit the Lafayette Habitat website at www.HabitatLafayette.org, or stop by the office at 714 Johnston St, Lafayette. Please call 337-261-5041 for more info.
