Records Show Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope Was Released “On His Own Recognizance” After Indictment (UPDATE)

Update: Court records say Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope was not required to post any bond after he was booked last month after his indictment.

Our news partners at KATC report Pope was indicted on two counts of perjury and three counts of use of public funds to urge electors to vote for a candidate. His bond was set at $25,000 but records show Pope was released "on his own recognizance" and was not even required to post the $15 fee.

A grand jury in Lafayette has handed up an indictment of Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope today.

Our news partners at KATC reported Pope was indicted on two counts of perjury and three counts of use of public funds to urge electors to vote for a candidate.

Pope had been arrested in April for withholding emails from Lafayette news organization, The Independent. The newspaper was investigating the accusations that Pope was aiding Scott Police Chief Chad Leger get elected for Lafayette Parish Sheriff.
