A day that many in Acadiana have been wondering about and waiting for is coming to fruition today. The Grand 16 Theater on Johnston Street in Lafayette will be re-opening today.

A series of events are planned and will begin at 5pm as Mellow Mushroom owner Todd Moffatt will welcome police, firefighters and other emergency first responders with a reception from 5pm-6pm. They'll be fed appetizers and pizza.

At 6pm, first responders and clergy will gather in front of the theater for a small ceremony. Rev. Lloyd Benoit, the priest from Mayci Breaux's church in Franklin, will open the ceremony with a prayer and blessing.

A ribbon cutting will then take place at 6:25pm. The ceremony will close with another prayer from a nondenominational pastor.

The Grand's box office will open at 6:45pm, at which time the theater will open to patrons.

The first movie, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, will begin at 7pm.
