The Lafayette City-Parish President’s Awareness Committee for Citizens with Disabilities (DAC) conducted its annual awards ceremony on October 30th, recognizing individuals and organizations that have worked to improve the community for citizens with disabilities.  The winners were:
•         Scott Crawford ---Distinguished Merit Award
•         Kathy Cornay ---Outstanding Direct Support Professional
•         Justin Edwards —Youth of the Year
•         Brandy Gerard ---Volunteer  of the Year
•         The Fusilier Family ---Family of the Year
•         Angela Edwards ---Educator of the Year
•         Wal-Mart  ---Employer of the Year

Each local winner was also nominated for the statewide Governor’s Outstanding Leadership in Disabilities (GOLD) Awards

Three Lafayette representatives won a state award and will represent Lafayette at the GOLD Awards.

•         Employer of the Year, Wal-Mart, was nominated locally by Sherry Frye and Randy Broussard of Louisiana Rehabilitation Services.
•         Youth of the Year, Justin Edwards, Lafayette High Senior nominated by Lafayette High Counselor, Jennifer Luquette.
•         Lafayette’s Brian Watkins has won the state award for Educator of the Year, though not nominated for local awards this year.
