"America's Mayor" and personal attorney to the President, Rudy Giuliani is throwing his support behind a political newcomer with a big event in Lafayette. Giuliani has endorsed Lafayette attorney Josh Guillory for Congress. Guillory, a Republican, is challenging incumbent Clay Higgins in the November 6th election. The fundraiser is set to take place at the Petroleum Club on the evening of June 25th.

Josh Guillory appeared on KPEL News to explain his positions and platform with Rob Kirkpatrick and Bernadette Lee.

The endorsement is somewhat of a surprise for those who have followed Clay Higgins leading up to and since his 2016 election. Higgins has been an outspoken supporter of President Trump leading some to wonder why Giuliani would support his challenger.

In a comment published by the USA Today network, Guiliani says:

“This is a time we need men and women in Congress that understand its country first. Josh is a strong conservative, who understands the fight he faces in restoring civility and voting to balance our budget, cut taxes and protect the people of his state and this country," Giuliani said. "(Guillory's) a veteran and I am proud to stand with him and support his campaign."

Tickets for the Petroleum Club event are going for more than $2,500 per person.
