After an impressive win over New Mexico State last week, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had everything in front of them:  Two chances for bowl eligibility, senior day, a chance to stay in the race for a championship and a 1-9 Georgia Southern team coming to Cajun Field.

And, they laid an egg.

Georgia Southern's option game chewed up the Cajuns' defense, rushing for 389 yards as the Eagles defeated the Cajuns 34-24 before an announced crowd of 12,993 Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles held the ball for over 40 minutes in the game and ran 74 plays to just 48 for the home team.  Wesley Fields led the ground attack with 186 yards on 23 carries while L. A. Ramsby added 87 yards on 20 totes.  Quarterback Shai Werts threw for one touchdown and scored another on the ground.

The Eagles jumped on the Cajuns after the home team went three and out on their first two possessions, scoring on drives of 75 and 73 yards to take a 14-0 lead.  After starting quarterback Levi Lewis threw an interception, Tyler Bass nailed a field goal and the visitors led 17-0 early in the second quarter.

Coach Mark Hudspeth then turned to junior Jordan Davis at quarterback and Darius Hoggins scored on a 75 yard run on the first play to get the Cajuns on the board.  Neither team got anything going in the rest of the quarter and Georgia Southern led 17-7 at the half.

Werts scored on a six yard run after the second half kickoff to extend the Eagles' lead to 24-7 and after the teams traded field goals, Davis threw to Ryheem Malone for a 17 yard touchdown to trim the lead to 27-17.

But Georgia Southern put together another long drive to make it 34-17 just a couple of minutes later and the best the Cajuns could do was a Davis pass to Jarrod Jackson for the final score.

Davis completed 15-26 passes for 225 yards and a pair of scores but was intercepted twice as the Cajuns, who went 12 quarters without a turnover, committed three in the game.

The Cajuns have one more shot to get bowl eligible but it will be a road game at Appalachian State, which will be going for a share of the Sun Belt title.
