Country Music Hall of Fame Star George Jones was hospitalized overnight Wednesday in Nashville.

A statement from his publicist, Kirt Webster, says Jones went in for an annual checkup and doctors required him to stay overnight to continue monitoring him.   He is expected to be released Thursday (Today).  His condition has not been disclosed. 

The 79-year-old Country Crooner joked in the statement, “I didn't want to drive back home to Franklin (just outside Nashville) in cold weather so I decided to stay at the hospital.”

George Jones has numerous awards and he’s charted over a dozen No. 1 hits throughout his long career, including the classic "He Stopped Loving Her Today."

Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame back in 1992.
