A couple weeks ago, I reported former Saints special teams player Steve Gleason had been nominated for the George Halas award. The Pro Football Writers of America select a winner for his success in the face of adversity. Nola.com reports, the winner was announced on Monday. It's Steve Gleason. He's been fighting an inspiring battle against "Lou Gehrig's disease, raising awareness and funds for ALS research, through his foundation, Team Gleason. He's also pushed for legislation to aid persons with disabilities, and attended the State of the Union address earlier this year. Two other Saints players have won the award, Quarterback Drew Brees in 2007, and Kicker Tom Dempsey in 1972. Many Saints fans will remember this moment from the Saints 2006 home opener. I was there. I've seen this video a dozen times. It still gives me goosebumps...
