A former Lafayette Consolidated Government employee and an accomplice stole somewhere between $77,600 and $100,000 in coins from Hub City parking meters.

According to a report released this morning from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office the facilities maintenance repairman was assigned to parking meter repairs.

The CPA report said due to inadequate monitoring and controls over meter keys and other supplies the thefts went unnoticed

Both of the suspects were arrested and charged for theft after which the city employee resigned from his post.

LCG officials have since established new controls to avoid such thefts in the future.
