Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun tight end Ian Thompson has kept his NFL dream alive, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad as a fullback Wednesday.

Our friend Travis Webb at KATC TV3 first reported on Monday that Thompson would be signed to the Bucs practice squad.

Thompson follows in a line of Cajun tight ends to break into the NFL.

Ladarius Green, a 2011 Cajun alum, signed with the San Diego Chargers after being drafted in the 6th round of the 2012 draft.

Thompson's close friend and former roommate Jacob Maxwell, a 2013 Cajun alum, earned a practice squad contract from the Miami Dolphins. Maxwell originally signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent.

Thompson earned an undrafted free agent deal with the Houston Texans last May. After being cut, he caught on with the Bucs in training camp and was moved to fullback.

While he played tight end in college, Thompson did take snaps as an H-Back in the Cajun offense.
