Florida Tourists Picking Up Bricks Of Marijuana Washing Ashore After Hurricane Florence

There's no doubt that a hurricane that size churned up some things in the ocean.

As it turns out, 26 lbs bricks of marijuana are washing ashore in Daytona Beach, Florida and surrounding areas. And people are trying to scoop them up as fast as they can. There's even fights breaking out over them!

"Sea Weed" huh huh.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office submitted a press release that stated one man was arrested after he "was seen attempting to open the packaging and take packages of marijuana. Others were attempting to do the same thing."

As you would guess, recreational marijuana is illegal in Florida, and is strictly enforced. Norml, who specializes in marijuana laws,  says that in Florida, possession of 20 grams or less of the drug is a misdemeanor and can lead to a $1,000 fine and up to 1 year in jail. Having 26 lbs. (the weight of one of the packages) is a felony that carries a minimum jail sentence of 3 years and up to 15, and fines up to $25,000.

So, if you're off vacationing, and you see one of these bricks wash ashore, don't go grabbing for it. Just call the police and let them deal with it. You don't wanna get stuck with a 3 year mandatory minimum sentence.
