On April 25th, thirteen members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football team were arrested for conspiring to steal items valued at around $2400 from former teammate Artez Williams in Huger Hall. Surveillance video showed the players entering a room on the 4th floor and allegedly committing theft.

Felony charges for all 13 players have been reduced to criminal mischief, and according to court documents first reported by Tim Buckley of The Advertiser, each player entered a pre-trial diversion program, allowing the charges to be dropped following the completion of community service.

Tight end Matthew Barnes, defensive end Joe Dillon, offensive lineman Robert Hunt, defensive back Denarius Howard, defensive end Jarvis Jeffries, defensive tackle LaDarrius Kidd, linebacker Terik Miller, defensive back Damar’ren Mitchell, running back Trey Ragas, cornerback Simeon Thomas, defensive back and returnman Levarious Varnado, offensive lineman D’Aquin Withrow and running back Jordan Wright were the players originally charged in the case.

Ragin' Cajun head football coach Mark Hudspeth released the following statement regarding today's news.

"We are relieved that this issue is nearing closure. These young men have learned and will continue to learn from this tremendous life lesson. We will continue to be respectful of the legal process as it runs its course."

Louisiana's season kicks off at Cajun Field on September 2nd against Southeastern Louisiana at 6:00pm.
