Family Dollar Closing Nearly 400 Stores

We reported last December, there are approximately 30 Family Dollar and Dollar General stores in Lafayette Parish. Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux reportedly felt that's too many. News from the North Carolina based Family Dollar chain may ease his angst.

USA Today reports, Family Dollar has announced it will close 370 stores that aren't performing to the company's satisfaction. The company reported a 6% drop in sales year over year. They also plan to open fewer new locations in the coming fiscal year. Will they be closing stores in the Lafayette area? That remains to be seen.
