Falcon Family Receives National Award From American Lung Association

My family was recently honored at a banquet in Chicago for the work we do raising money for the American Lung Association.

The event was held in the swanky Hilton Hotel at O'Hare Airport. How do I know that it was swanky?  Each place setting had 3 forks!  All kidding aside, we were humbled from the gratitude shown by the American Lung Association and all in attendance.

We made a weekend out of it, arriving in Chicago on Thursday.  The event was held Friday night, and we returned to Lafayette on Monday, so we had a few days to explore the Windy City.

Officially, the award is for Excellence in Volunteerism, and, as it turns out, we were "country come to town": the other two winners are both doctors!

It was awesome to be recognized for the work that we do in our mother's memory: Alice Joyce Richard Falcon succumbed to an asthma attack in 2004.  It was her wish that instead of flowers at her funeral, donations be made in her name to the American Lung Association of Louisiana, in hopes that a cure for asthma can be found.  We decided to carry on her wishes of contributing to ALA, so we created the 'jeep jaunt' in her name, and it is now 11 years strong!

It had been a long time since I went on vacation with that many siblings, and it was quite a treat.  We all get along well, and that trip just strengthened our bond as a family.

The 11th Annual 'jeep jaunt', the event our family puts on to raise money for the American Lung Association, will roll again on October 30, 2016, sponsored by Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel, Sterling Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram in Opelousas, Celebrity Theatres, KATC TV3 and 99.9 KTDY .  We hope that you can join us.
