Facebook Scammers Tried To Scam Me Today
I was working today when I get an Instant Message from a Facebook friend, "Deborah", and I quickly realized it was how scammers use Facebook to get your information.
Just today the Better Business Bureau sent an alert to warn people about a rash of scammers trying to obtain banking information from individuals using social media. Here's part of that press release:
How the Scam Works:
You get a phone call, get an email, or spot a post on social media. No matter the medium, the message is similar: the government is awarding "free grants." Your application is guaranteed to be accepted, and you'll never have to repay the money. You can use the "grant" to pay bills, make repairs, or pay education costs. - Better Business Bureau
The person that the message was coming from isn't a person that I've ever interacted with, so, right at the onset of the conversation, red flags were waving.
Here is how the conversation went:
I'll have to say that this scammer is better than most of the others by whom I've been approached: this one spells well, and only made a couple of grammatical errors.
Anyway, this wasn't the end of the conversation: I thought I'd have a little fun with him/her.
I didn't hear back from the scammers.
