The Lafayette Science Museum announces its new exhibition, “Fossil Giants: Dinosaurs & Mammals,” as part of a highly anticipated partnership with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s School of Geosciences.

The exhibit which features dynamically-posed fossil casts opens April 5, 2014 and will be presented in three installments: Triassic/Jurassic, Cretaceous, and Miocene periods. “This exhibition will take three years to unfold, illustrating how dinosaurs, and eventually mammals, evolved over millions of years while the Earth’s land masses were being torn apart by violent tectonic shifts.” said LSM director and curator Kevin B. Krantz. “Our visitors will leave the museum with a deeper understanding of how long life has existed on this planet.”

As part of the partnership, UL Lafayette’s extensive collection of fossils, rocks, and minerals will be on display for members and visitors. “This massive collection will dazzle visitors with the beauty of the specimens, but will also shed light on the chemical makeup and uses of these minerals,” said Director of the School of Geosciences at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Dr. David Borrok. “We want to get visitors excited about the minerals and rocks that form our planet.”
