Additional Information

Come on out for the 24th anniversary of the World Championship Gumbo Cook-Off Friday, October 11, 2013 with music from Nik-L-Beer Band. The fun continues on Saturday, October 12, with a Roux Run followed by a Cajun/Creole food fest. Taste Cajun and Creole cuisine and enjoy music from Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, Ryan Foret & Foret Tradition, and Chris Ardoin.

The big, gumbo cook-off will take place Sunday, October 13 with nearly 100 amateur teams and professional cooks to win the title of "World's best gumbo cooker."  The teams must prepare the roux on site without the benefit of electricity. To ensure that everyone abides by the “Gumbo Code of Ethics,” the Gumbo Police inspect each team’s ingredients before they begin cooking and patrol the plaza throughout the day. All types of gumbo will be sold beginning at 11:00am.
