It was a surprise for everyone, even the band, when the Eagles were presented with the Grammy they won for 'Hotel California' back in 1977 on Monday night. After their moving performance of 'Take It Easy' to honor the late Glenn Frey on the 2016 Grammy stage, the statue honoring the Record of the Year for 1977 was presented to Eagles founding member Don Henley. The broadcast had already cut to commercial, so television viewers didn't get to see it, but I found it online via Holli Mosley's post on the Eagles Fastlane facebook page. The reason they didn't get it back in 1977? They didn't attend the ceremony! I think it's a shame that Don Felder, who wrote the famous guitar parts for the iconic song, wasn't there to accept, but they didn't invite him. Felder, Henley (and Frey) have been on the outs for a long time. But it was nice to see them smile after their heart-wrenching performance of one of my favorite songs.
