The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that U.S. 90 will have intermittent lane closures in the westbound direction to allow crews to pave the road shoulder.

The lane closures will take place between Wall Road, in Youngsville, and the Billeaud Overpass, in Broussard, weather permitting.

These lane closures will take place from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., and are estimated to last for three weeks. All lanes will be opened at night.

Permit loads are restricted to 16 feet in width, and emergency vehicles will have access to the area.

While no detour is necessary for this work, motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route due to the possibility of congestion.

The work being performed during this closure is related to the $4.9 million project to install j-turns on U.S. 90 between the Billeaud Overpass and Wall Road.  The J-turn design will safely and efficiently manage traffic and eliminate left-turn and through movements from side roads and driveways into crossovers. All vehicles will be required to turn right and then U-turn at a median opening down the road.

Approximately 40,000 drivers a day travel on this portion of U.S. 90. Work on this four-mile project began in November 2012 and should be completed by fall 2013.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
