Feral hogs carry a disease that can kill a dog in four days.

KATC reports that pseudorabies, a disease usually only found in wild hogs, is a threat to dogs. Animals that contract the disease can die in only four days. Pseudorabies is not a threat to humans, but dog owners are encouraged to keep an eye on their pets and make sure they don't roam unsupervised. Vets also encourage dog owners to make sure they don't allow their dogs to chew on the infected carcasses of hogs or other animals that may also be infected.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is waiting for a new poison to be approved in the state to help solve the wild hog problem.
