For as long as I can remember, I have found the sound of people eating (chewing, smacking, etc) unbearable. I either get sick to the stomach or become extremely irritated or angry. My wife and children have experienced my frustration when they've eaten popsicles or popcorn around me. The sucking/crunching sounds, especially when the mouth is open while these sounds are made, is infuriating.

It turns out this is a medical condition called 'misphonia,' which is considered to be a mental disorder similar to OCD. According to what I've read, some scientists disagree that this is a medical condition at all, and that to try and 'treat it' with medicine or therapy would be making too big a deal of it. I don't care what anyone calls it, I just personally think some people need to learn how to chew with their mouths closed and eat more quietly. Is that too much to ask?
