I could fill up the Internet with my views on airline travel, luggage, carry on bags, crying babies, and how people get on and off of an airplane. However, in the interest of time and my blood pressure, I will acquiesce and limit my thoughts to high tech luggage.

Do you remember a year or so ago when a certain brand of smartphone was blowing up in people's pants and those phones were banned from air travel? Well now comes the next shoe to drop in the smart device versus air travel debate.

If you don't know what a Smartcase is let me explain that first. It's a suitcase with a built-in battery pack. That way you can charge a smartphone or computer during your travels. Many times these batteries power electric locks that provide the traveler with extra security.

Smartcase maker Away recently sent an email to purchasers of their product that Delta Airlines would no longer allow these battery powered travel bags on their planes if the battery is not removed. This ban is said to apply for carry on bags and checked bags.

Delta says that this is not a new policy. It is simply a clarification of the airline's current policy regarding smart bags and electronic devices with lithium batteries. Personally, I don't see what all the confusion is about. Almost all aircraft, at least aircraft that don't fly regional routes, provide passengers with a way to charge phones, computers, and even power a blender if you choose to be "that guy" on the plane.

Still, when you think about it did you ever think you'd ever utter the words "You need to take the battery out of your suitcase before you get on the plane". Oh my, what a time to be alive.
