A Morgan City woman was caught with illegal prescription drugs during a traffic stop for failing to use her turn signal.

Sheriff's spokesperson Traci Landry said a St. Mary Sheriff's narcotics agent pulled over Gia S. Gautier for the minor traffic violation in the Bayou Vista area Tuesday afternoon. While speaking with Gautier, the detective noticed a prescription bottle in her vehicle. The bottle, containing oxycodone pills, was not labeled for Gautier.

When the detective asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle, she threw another prescription bottle, this one containing Valium pills, under her car. She was arrested and booked into he St. Mary Parish jail on the following charges:

  • Possession of Schedule II (oxycodone) with intent to distribute
  • Distribution of Schedule IV (diazepam)
  • Possession of Schedule IV (diazepam) with intent to distribute
  • Obstruction of justice
  • No turn signal

Upon continuing the investigation, the detective discovered Gautier had just sold Valium pills to Paula B. Adams in Morgan City. Detectives found the Adams, and the pills, at her Third Street home where she was arrested for possession of Schedule IV controlled dangerous substances.
