As temperatures get colder throughout Acadiana, Catholic Services of Acadiana is distributing cold-weather gear to people experiencing homelessness who access laundry and shower services at Stella Maris Center. In order to meet this critical need this winter, Catholic Services of Acadiana is requesting community support of donated blankets, coats, hand warmers, gloves and winter wear.  CSA is not able to receive donations of clothing. Donations can be delivered Msgr. Sigur Center (403 St. John Street) from 8:00am – 3:00pm Monday - Friday.  Monetary donations can be made online at catholicservice.org/donate or mailed to P.O. Box 3177, Lafayette LA  70502.

Many people experiencing homelessness seek shelter from the elements. People experiencing homelessness are alerted of forecasted weather conditions and hypothermia shelter options through outreach workers, St. Joseph Diner and Stella Maris Hygiene facility.

This winter St. Joseph Shelter for Men is undergoing extensive renovations and cannot serve as one of the winter overflow shelters in the area.  Acadiana Regional Coalition on Homelessness and Housing (ARCH) as well as other faith-based organizations were notified of this limitation several months ago in preparation for colder temperatures

New Life Center is operating its shelter as it does each year and women seeking shelter can call 337-948-3161 for more information. For a full list winter of overflow shelter organizations please visit www.archacadiana.org.

St. Joseph Shelter for Men continues to shelter at its normal capacity for the duration of the renovations. The renovations taking place at the facility include improvements that will allow for more individuals to be sheltered during future winter crisis plans.
