The Creole Tomato Festival is one of my favorite quick getaway weekends. Sure it's hot, but it's summer in South Louisiana! This time of year is prime season for the big red beauties, the best-tasting tomatoes on the planet, if you ask me. You can watch some great Louisiana chefs create some unique dishes, taste so many delectable offerings, and sip some unusual and interesting beverage concoctions. Plus, it's just a couple of hours away from Acadiana, so you don't even have to spend the night if you don't want to.

The French Market’s 29th Annual Creole Tomato Festival features booths offering Creole Tomato dishes, cooking demonstrations by local chefs, Creole Tomato eating contests, plus three live music stages!

The festival is roughly 3 blocks within the French Market District, from Dumaine to Barracks Street. Food booths are located at French Market Place and Barracks. The Farmers Market features three tomato sellers offering Creole tomatoes by the box, crate, and bags.

Spending $30 in a French Market District retail shop gets you a voucher to redeem at Ben & Ben Becnel’s stand for a bag of fresh Creole tomatoes!

The festival offers fun for the whole family, with Dutch Alley and the Jazz Park Visitor Center dedicated to children’s activities and booths and indoor entertainment.
