Anybody anywhere can ship a box of pears from a catalog or stick a gift card in an envelope. But here, we can choose from an amazing array of unique and cool Christmas gifts that you can only get in Louisiana. Here are a few of our favorites...

  • Roux Spoon

If you're not familiar with the phrase "First you make a roux," this probably looks like a worn old spoon. Well, that's kind of how the idea originated. In the old days, cooks would stir their black iron pots making roux for a gumbo until the spoon evolved into the perfect implement for scraping the bottom of the pot. A Roux Spoon is a wonderful conversation starter and a useful tool.
  • Zydeco Rubboard

It originated from an actual washboard, but has evolved into an instrument which must be worn to fully embrace the sound it contributes to Zydeco music. Ask anybody who's ever put one on and they'll tell you that you can really feel the music. Anybody can play one, but there are only a handful of performers who have mastered it.
  • Oryza Vodka

It's distilled in Thibodaux from rice grown in Crowley. I haven't tasted it yet, but I hear it's good.
  • Ragin' Cajuns Gear

UL is going to the New Orleans Bowl again and everybody's a Ragin' Cajun fan, or they should be, so let's 'Paint the Quarter Red' and gear up to support our home team!

    Louisiana Hot Stuff
  • Turducken

Yep, it's exactly what it sounds like- a (deboned) chicken stuffed in a duck stuffed in a turkey and it's all stuffed with delicious rice dressing or seafood dressing or cornbread dressing or, well, you get the idea. And it's good. And those of you who are eating mashed potatoes, peas and ham again this Christmas have no idea what you're missing!
  • The UL Alumni Association, in collaboration with the Weibel Family Vineyards, is introducing a new way to celebrate school spirit: Ragin’ Cajun Wines. Available in Ragin' Cajun Blanc!, Ragin' Cajun Rouge!; and Ragin' Cajun Sparkle!, these new wines are a perfect way to showcase your UL pride and spirit.
