The Inaugural Compete 4 A Cause was a success Sunday, with kids fishin', artists artin', singers singin', and happy people being happy!!

The event benefited "Sky's the Limit of Acadiana" (who support and work with numerous non-profits in the local area), and "D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana" (who continue to bring sports and activities to the local community for children with special needs).   The event aimed to build unity in the Special Needs Community, to help promote the development of a residential community for adults with special needs in Acadiana.

The event featured an Art Barn, filled with artwork from local artists.

The entertainment included several scenes from the musical Peter Pan, performed by CYT (Catholic Youth Theatre), the song "Pieces", written and performed by Mr. and Mrs. Cal Stevenson, an electric guitar version of "The Star-Spangled Banner", and sets of music from Jake Brake, Tandem and Louisiana Red!

The threat of rain arrived late in the afternoon, but it wasn't enough to scare off the families that had gathered to enjoy the day.

Karen Juneau, the organizer of the event, was pleased with the turnout and, with a big smile on her face, said "It'll be bigger, and better, next year"!

Congrats to everyone who worked so hard to put on the event!

I was honored to have been asked to emcee the event.  It was a warm day, at the beginning, but this is what I was greeted with when I got into the Jeep to head home:
