Cockroaches are what turn South Louisiana summertime dreams into creepy crawly nightmares. You might think I'm overreacting, but I have had some pretty terrifying run-ins with roaches and I'm not trying to wake up in the middle of the night with a cockroach on my stomach ever again. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my roach fueled horror stories.

Now, I know in Louisiana as soon as June hits we al start prepping for hurricane season, but cockroach season is the real deal too and I for one want to make sure I'm prepared for both.

Cockroach season kicks off when temperatures regularly soar above 100°. This is when roaches sneak into your house in search of food, water and relief from the heat. I mean, I get it, I don't even want to be outside in Louisiana during the summer.

So, what can you do to prevent any unwanted guests? According to combatbugs.com, in the summer it is particularly important to keep your kitchen clean, store food in airtight containers, and take out the trash on a regular basis. This will discourage roaches from invading your home."

If you do end up seeing any little roachies around your residence Sugarland Exterminating suggests bait, insecticides or roach traps. And if all else fails call an exterminator.

Here's to never seeing my sink fill up with cockroach pieces after my husband destroyed one in the garbage disposal ever again!
