Louisiana Ragin' Cajun head football coach Mark Hudspeth has released a statement regarding the 13 UL football players who were suspended indefinitely last night after turning themselves into Lafayette Parish Jail following an investigation by the UL police department involving theft.

Mark Hudspeth: “On behalf of our football program, I would like to apologize to Cajun Nation and the University. We do not condone the behavior that was represented and we expect higher standards of our student-athletes.

We work diligently every day to guide, educate and develop these young men, so it is disappointing when we do not meet those standards.

We will be respectful of the legal process as it runs its course."

Per the UL PD, the 13 players allegedly conspired to steal items valued at around $2400 from a student in Huger Hall. Surveillance video showed the players entering a room on the 4th floor and allegedly committing theft.

The suspended players include tight end Matthew Barnes, defensive end Joe Dillon, offensive lineman Robert Hunt, defensive back Denarius Howard, defensive end Jarvis Jeffries, defensive tackle LaDarrius Kidd, linebacker Terik Miller, defensive back Damar’ren Mitchell, running back Trey Ragas, cornerback Simeon Thomas, defensive back and returnman Levarious Varnado, offensive lineman D’Aquin Withrow and running back Jordan Wright.
