Riding around with family and looking at Christmas lights is a family tradition that makes for amazing lifetime memories—but where are the best places to see them in Acadiana?

Like many things from our childhood, things "just aren't the same as they were" back in the day, and Christmas lights are no exceptions. I can remember when seeing a house with no lights or decorations was the exception, but somewhere along the way it has seemingly become the rule.

Right now, finding a neighborhood with more than half of the homes decorated for the Christmas holiday would be considered a success. But why aren't as many people putting up lights and decorations anymore?

Is it the extra electricity needed to power up the lights? Is it because people are simply too busy (or lazy) and simply don't have the time or energy to pull out the ladder and untangle the lights?

A lot of folks here in South Louisiana are focused on getting by in this tough economy—especially if they were also affected by the recent flooding—and that is totally understandable.

Also, it should be noted that as people get older and the kids begin moving out of the house, Christmas decorations aren't as important—not to mention, for some it just becomes too much of a physical challenge to deal with.

OK—so enough whining. We know that there aren't as many houses decorating, so where do we find the ones that are? Where are the houses that will wow the kids and make us smile as we ride around with the fam and sip on overpriced warm drinks from (insert fancy coffee shop here).
