Why didn't Charlie Puth join American Idol as a judge for the forthcoming 16th season (even with Katy Perry's blatant endorsement)? From his perspective, it just wasn't something his career's next stage would allow.

In an interview with Access HollywoodPuth said he's simply become too busy to sign on for something so demanding. Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were eventually announced as the show's next-gen panel.

"It was a choice on my end," Puth said. "Kinda where I am now in my musical life — I don't want to say that I'm on fire, but I'm seeing a lot of success all at once right now, and that success requires a lot of demand where I need to be in a short amount of time."

FIRE.

Perry told Ryan Seacrest on his On Air With Ryan Seacrest in August that Puth would have made a perfect addition to the panel.

"Charlie, I think, is an interesting play because Charlie Puth is someone new to the general public of America. Obviously he has his own big fan base, but I think he’s really talented,” she explained. “He’s a writer, he’s a producer, he’s young, he’s hip, he’s fresh.”
