Everyone who drives in Lafayette traffic on a regular basis, can attest as to how frustrating it can be. Especially during drive times, holidays, when school zones are in effect and most Saturdays. There are ways to improve the movement of Lafayette's traffic, literally overnight.
The widening of Verot School Road continues this week as 2 of its intersections will be closed from 7 AM Thursday (March 15) until 7 PM Saturday (March 17), weather permitting.
On Sunday, from 7 AM until 10 PM, the westbound outside lane of Johnston Street will be closed at the intersection of Cajundome Boulevard, weather permitting.
The northbound outside lane and shoulder of Pinhook Road between Verot School Road and Wendy Drive will be closed on Tuesday (Feb. 27) for roadway repairs.
As Fat Tuesday comes to a close, some more road construction for the U.S. 90 widening project will begin on Ash Wednesday and last until Friday, February 16.
Starting tonight (Monday) and Wednesday night, there will be a rolling lane closure happening in both directions between the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and the new Mississippi River Bridge.
In addition to the bridge closures that have already begun today, there will be alternating lane closures happening in both directions from LA 91 in Estherwood to LA 35 in Rayne for various bridge repairs, weather permitting.
If you must get out before this all melts, please slow down, give yourself extra time, leave plenty of space between your car and other vehicles, and pay very close attention.
