With the latest surge of covid-19 hitting our state and country many Lafayette hospitals are seeing an increase in covid-19 patients and people seeking medical assistance due to having covid like symptoms.
Ochsner Lafayette General announced in June that they were planning a massive upgrade to the facility. The expansion would cost around $100 million and include a 6-floor inpatient tower, a state-of-the-art Cancer center, and a 547 vehicle parking garage tower.
U.S. health regulators have authorized a second pill to help fight covid-19. The Merck drug called Molnupiravir was approved this morning for use in adults who have early symptoms of covid-19.
According to a press release from the Lafayette Parish School System, masks will be optional for students and staff following Governor Edwards' announcement regarding the mask mandate in Louisiana. Following federal regulation, those who ride on school buses will still be required to wear masks.
