Carencro Drainage Project To Start Soon

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers drainage project to address flooding issues in Carencro is slated to begin in November.

Since the 1990′s a solution has been sought to ongoing flooding issues for that community.  The price tag for the project is $5 million.

Mayor Glenn Brasseaux says the Corps of Engineers project will aim to build a retention pond to hold heavy amounts of rain.  They plan also included digging out about two miles of the Beau Bassin Coulee.

That coulee is responsible for draining about 80 percent of the city of Carencro.

When the project starts next month, the first part will be the creation of the retention pond.  That phase of the project will take until April to complete.

The next phase of the project won’t be awarded to a contractor until next year.
