Just over a month ago, Captain Clay Higgins made the announcement to join the race for the 3rd Congressional District seat, which is being vacated by Rep. Charles Boustany.

How is the campaign trail treating the political newcomer?

Why should people vote for Captain Clay Higgins?

Those are just two questions he answers in this sit down interview with KPEL News anchor Brandon Comeaux.

In their discussion, Captain Higgins gives his reaction to an early poll conducted by the Trafalgar Group, which put him in second place behind early frontrunner Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle. Speaking of Angelle, Captain Higgins describes why he believes he is the complete opposite candidate from him, and how that played a factor into his decision to run in the 3rd Congressional District, as opposed to the 4th Congressional District which consists of parts of St. Landry Parish, an area Captain Clay Higgins served in during his time with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Higgins also gave his thoughts on term limits, whether they are needed or not.

And, he weighed in on the national debate on gun control and how he believes the 2nd Amendment should be handled in conjunction with the terror watch lists and how Congress is handling this issue.
