In slightly over three weeks voters in Louisiana will go to the polls to choose a new Governor. Chances are that one the four men taking part in a televised debate tonight will be that choice.

The four major candidates who are running for the Governor’s office, Republicans Scott Angelle, Jay Dardenne, and David Vitter plus Democrat John Bel Edwards will square off tonight in hopes of earning your vote October 24th.

LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan told the Louisiana Radio Network that this is a great opportunity for Angelle and Dardenne to gain some traction against front runner David Vitter.

Vitter has spent a lot of money saying negative things about Dardenne, as well as, Angelle so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens in this debate.

This will be the only televised debate before the October 24th election in which all four of the candidates will be appearing. David Vitter has missed his fair share of these forums and debates and according to Hogan it’s good for Vitter to be a part of at least some of the discussions. However, by appearing in this format it does offer the Vitter campaign a substantial risk too.

This is a situation where he is not in control of the message in the way he is with his campaign advertising. It creates a degree of uncertainty there for him but he can only avoid them so much.

Tonight’s debate is hosted by WDSU TV in New Orleans and will be made available across the state on local NBC television affiliates.  You may also watch a live stream of the debate online.
