Louisiana Ragin' Cajun cornerback Simeon Thomas has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2014 season according to UL sports information director Matt Sullivan.

"Sophomore cornerback Simeon Thomas is academically ineligible, but remains on scholarship," said Sullivan. "He will continue to practice with the team."

Thomas was expected to compete for a starting position at cornerback in 2014.

A three-star recruit by Scout.com, Thomas began to show a high ceiling late last season, registering 5 tackles and 2 pass break ups against Tulane in the R&L Carrier's New Orleans Bowl. He also registered tackles versus Texas State and Troy, both Cajun victories.

At 6'3, 180 pounds, Thomas is eligible to return to 2015 in game action if his grades improve enough to meet the academic eligibility standards. If he does so, he'll have two years of eligibility remaining in 2015 and 2016.

Tim Buckley of The Advertiser was the first to report on Thomas' academic ineligibility.
