Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope has bonded out of the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center after being booked into the jail Monday morning, according to our news partners at KATC.

His attorney, Kevin Stockstill, told KATC reporters that by doing this Pope was able to post the $500 post-sentence bond handed down by Judge Jules Edwards. Pope is appealing Edwards' sentence of seven days of house arrest.

The judge agreed with The Independent that Pope withheld public records the news organization sought, emails they say proved that Pope used his elected position to help Scott Police Chief Chad Leger in his campaign for sheriff.
