The rumors over the weekend suggested that Eddie Bonine was going to be out as Executive Director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. That group's executive committee met yesterday to discuss, among other things, Bonine's public comments concerning the current state of disarray in high school athletics in Louisiana.

The reports were that Bonine would be dismissed after describing the administration of high school athletics in the state as a "dumpster fire". That was the main reason for this special meeting. LHSAA President Vic Bonnaffee couldn't be specific on what went into the committee's decision but the bottom line is that Bonine will remain as Executive Director.

First of all I’d like to say that Mr. Bonine is the executive director of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Second, I would like to say under the advice of legal counsel, since this involves personnel, there is no comment.

Bonnaffee's comments reported by the Louisiana Radio Network suggested that since the decision has been made regarding Bonine it is time to move forward.  Bonine's current contract with the LHSAA is up for renewal in 2019. Bonine also addressed the media about Monday's meeting.

I’ve never been in a position where I am today, I’m in uncharted waters so I’m going to do the best I can. I’m going to regroup as a professional, regroup as a person and I’m going to give the best I can from this point further.

Bonine did apologize for his "dumpster fire" comment before the meeting went into its executive session.  He also suggested that the LHSAA understood the frustration that many member schools, coaches, and fans have with the current split playoff system.
