Emergency crews in East Baton Rouge Parish recovered the body of a man who drowned after being swept away by floodwaters.

According to The Advocate, neighbors of the victim attempted to help but were unsuccessful in saving the man. EBR Parish Coroner William "Beau" Clark confirmed the man's death.

Clark also said that it was a "witnessed drowning" and the identity of the man will not be released until the next of kin is notified.

Original reports claimed a small child was swept away—that claim refuted by East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks.
