I'm a long time fan of the legendary BB King. Over the years, one factor or another has prevented me from seeing him perform live until earlier this year. Riley (his given name) is 89 years old. He's also diabetic. He subsequently has to be wheeled onstage, and performs sitting down. Several people expressed disappointment to me after seeing him this past June at Cypress Bayou Casino. They had different expectations than I did.  Being aware of his age and health, I wasn't expecting the 1970 BB King who had a huge hit with "The Thrill Is Gone." I got to see a living legend.

Mr. King took ill during a performance at the House of Blues in Chicago Friday night. His website reports, he was examined by a doctor, who determined he was dehydrated and in need of rest. The remaing shows on his current tour have been cancelled. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
