You’d be hard-pressed to top the one-off, wine-soaked perfection of Big Little Lies, but HBO can’t help flying a little closer to that Monterey sun. A new report suggest Season 2 is officially a go, with production earmarked for 2018.

TVLine reports that the HBO miniseries’ impressive eight Emmy wins lit a fire under Season 2 prospects; now in line for a spring 2018 production date. HBO has not yet commented on the report, though executive producer David E. Kelley apparently claimed they were close to scheduling production.

For the moment, it remains unclear what story a Big Little Lies Season 2 might tell beyond Liane Moriarty’s original novel. Also unconfirmed is the participation of its extensive cast, which in Season 1 included Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern, Adam Scott and more. Several potential hiccups include Witherspoon’s new Apple series with Jennifer Aniston (Variety reports Witherspoon dropped Noah Hawley’s Pale Blue Dot for Season 2), Scott’s role in FOX’s Ghosted and Iain Armitage’s place as the title character of Young Sheldon.

HBO may confirm or clarify any Big Little Lies Season 2 plans before long, but should the series stick with a one-and-done approach?
