With the 2014 regular season on the horizon, many Saints fans are jockeying for tickets. If you can only make one game at the Dome this year, which one should it be?

NewOrleansSaints.com recently conducted a poll on the one regular season game Saints fans desire to attend most this season. A home matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on November 9th received 39% of the vote, with the regular season opener at Atlanta against the Falcons coming in 2nd at 19%.

There's a number of good choices when considering home games only, with the 49ers game being right at the top. After all, San Francisco has played in 3 straight NFC Championship games and gave New Orleans all they wanted last year in a memorable matchup at the Mercedes Benz-Superdome, with the Saints winning in walk-off fashion (In case you forgot, it ended with a walk-off field goal by a kicker who is currently unemployed).

As old NFC West rivals, long-time Saints fans seethe at the thought of the 49ers. On top of that, the sting of the 2011 playoff loss at San Francisco hasn't worn off for many Saints fans, and possibly never will. Beating the best team on your schedule and one of the best in your conference could be the difference in staying at home or traveling come playoff time.

Another good choice is the primetime matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. However, consider the fact that the Cowboys have only defeated the Saints one time in the last 19 years, and New Orleans has dominated night games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, winning 13 straight by an average of just under 20 points a game.

But....consider the following. That lone Dallas win over the Saints in the last 19 seasons was the last home night game the Saints were defeated. In 2009, the Cowboys handed the Saints their first defeat of of the season in a late December, Saturday night showdown.

Perhaps it's too late on the schedule, but I'm looking at the arch-rival matchup with the hated Atlanta Falcons on December 21rst as the number one game to attend in 2014. Atlanta will be improved in 2014. Major division and playoff implications should be on the line in Week 16.

More than that, it's the Falcons. Atlanta may lead lead the All-Time series 47-43, but the Saints have closed the gap with a recent surge in dominance. Since 2006 (Payton/Brees era), the Saints have won 13 of 16 meetings versus the dirty birds.

For those of you who have been to a Saints game in recent years, you know what I mean when I say there's nothing quite like it. For an NFL gameday atmosphere, it's hard to beat.

There's no wrong answer to the question. If you could only attend one regular season home game in 2014, what's your choice?

Many reading this probably pick the San Francisco game first. If you're asking me, the one Saints home game you should attend in 2014 is the one you should attend most years. Saints versus Falcons. One of the oldest, best, and most underrated rivalries in the NFL.
