Tragedy brings out the best in people. It, unfortunately, also brings out the worst. People in Acadiana are always ready to step up and help our own. We've seen it time & time again...Hurricane Andrew, Katrina, Rita, Gustav. Countless people turned out to search for Mickey Shunick. We've been hit again. Most of us have spent the weekend absorbing the initial shock. Now the instinct to help is kicking in. There are, unfortunately, people who'd capitalize on the desire of people in our community to help. If you're solicited to make a monetary donation, ask questions. How will my donation help? How much of it will actually go to help  the victim's families? It's probably wisest to avoid  "charities" you've never heard of.
