Will the La. Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) seek legal action against La. Governor Bobby Jindal’s attempt to remove the Common Core education standards out of the Pelican State?

That’s the question on many minds as the dispute between Gov. Jindal and Superintendent of Education John White, along with BESE, continues over the state’s continued implementation of Common Core in public schools.

BESE will hold a special meeting on Tuesday and there is an agenda item that calls for “consideration of the potential retention of special legal counsel.”

BESE President Chas Roemer says the board is bound by law to use the education standards and associated testing. Meanwhile, the Jindal administration has suspended a state contract to try to keep the education department from buying testing material tied to Common Core.
