BBB: Scammers Targeting Acadiana Job Seekers (Audio)

Acadiana's Better Business Bureau President and CEO Sharane Gott stopped by the KPEL Studio Friday morning to warn Acadiana's job seekers of scammers taking advantage of those in need of employment.

Gott said several victims called the Acadiana BBB to report that they had paid anywhere between $100-$250 and completed a two-day class to obtain Haz-Woper certification from a company called MaloTraining.

When the newly "certified" individuals applied for jobs with various companies in the area, they were informed that the certificates were fakes.

Gott said the BB investigated the certificates and confirmed that the did not have proper markings and therefore would not be ample for job applicants.

She said this type of scam is popping up around Acadiana more often lately. Some of these scammers are even targeting churches as a haven of manipulation.

Gott and her staff have reported these scams to Attorney General Jeff Landry's office, which Gott said is already following these complaints.
