The public is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District (BVD) as they celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Join them as they bring together various organizations to Vermilionville in an effort to raise awareness and inspire appreciation for our planet Earth.  Thanks to Cox Communications, the presenting sponsor, Earth Day will be open to the public free of admission.

The BVD will be host for a day to various community organizations and businesses ready to share their knowledge of environmentally related issues as well as provide fun activities for the kids.  You’ll be able to take a short canoe paddle in Vermilionville’s Petit Bayou, enjoy cooking demonstrations on how to preserve your garden’s harvest, catch and identify various aquatic bugs to help determine water quality, as well as enjoy many more activities for the kids.

Enjoy the music of the Lafayette Rhythm Devils and ŒUVAL, register for the free Wise Water raffle, and take a tour of the Bayou Vermilion in our a traditionally and locally built bateau, The Cocodrie.
The Bayou Vermilion District is also excited to offer for the first time this year, a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle garage sale and swap meet. Anyone who is doing spring cleaning or looking to de-clutter can bring unwanted items that are still in good condition to trade or donate.  For a complete list of organizations and businesses participating in the BVD’s Earth Day Celebration as well as a complete list of activities soon to be announced, visit the calendar of events at Vermilionville.org or call (337) 233-4077.
