Let the good times flow on Sunday, October 21 for Bayou Vermilion District’s Bayou Vermilion Festival & inaugural Boat Parade- a celebration of and on the Vermilion River.

The Festival will kick off with a public showing of antique putt-putt boats and engines at 10 a.m. Other activities include babbitt pouring and boat restoration demonstrations, canoeing , children’s activities and live music by Goldman Thibodeaux & The Lawtell Playboys and more. Admission to the Festival will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and children 6 and under enter free. The boat parade will launch from Vermilionville at 2 p.m. with antique putt-putt boat owners from around the south, a musician’s barge with live music as well as local boat owners and paddlers who care to join in the parade. The parade will end with a celebration at Cochon restaurant around 5 p.m. with live music by Christine Balfa & Friends, dancing, food and drinks. Residents and businesses that live along the parade route are encouraged to invite friends and family over to watch the parade from their back yard. Those that do not live along the parade route can watch the parade at Vermilionville, Beaver Park, Rotary Point or at Cochon restaurant.

Those wishing to participate in the parade with their boat, canoe or kayak are encouraged to register their water craft by visiting BayouVermilion.org/BayouFest or calling (337) 233-4077. Bayou Vermilion District will also be accepting reservations for canoes and kayaks for those wishing to participate but don’t own a water craft. A requested donation of $10 for all participants in the parade will go towards the Bayou Vermilion District’s efforts to keep the river clean and viable as a source of recreation for the citizens of Lafayette Parish.
