Pinhook Rd in Lafayette is one of the busiest roads in the Hub City. Countless motorist travel the road everyday and just like me, never really give any thought as to why it's called Pinhook Rd. What is a Pinhook? Is it the last name of an Acadiana dignitary from the past? Well, turns out the origin of the name "Pinhook" is a bit of a hot mess...and a slight testament to good ole Cajun ingenuity.
It's Christmas time in Louisiana, and within just a few hours drive, there are some amazing sites to make a little Christmas road trip. From mountains of lights, to huge bonfires, there's some Christmas magic happening in Louisiana any day of the week.
I often try to learn things about Louisiana that I don't know. This is a pretty interesting place, so when I set out to see what I can find, I always come across things I don't know. This morning, I learned that Hitler has a horse buried in Louisiana. Wait, Ceste' what?!?
A couple of days ago, my cousin Danny and his family took a day trip to the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville. They've been there before, but this time was a little different. As so many people do, they took a lot of pictures hoping to catch something otherworldly in a photograph or two. Well, my niece Sydney definitely got a pic of something pretty creepy in one of the front windows of the house.
About 20 children in the foster care system attended a pizza party yesterday sponsored by Buck and Johnny's Pizzeria in Breaux Bridge. The kids were asked to use art and poetry to express what being adopted would mean to them. Lavontray, an 8th grader who's been in the system for 5 years now, put his feelings into song and I'm now a teary mess.
For many years, we've enjoyed delicious fried turkey here in South Louisiana. It got me thinking, where did this tradition start? Could we really be responsible for bringing the world fried turkey? You got that right!
Earlier this month, everyone across Acadiana collectively held our breath and said a prayer when we heard a vehicle had crashed into Sugar N' Spice Daycare on Beadle Rd. in Lafayette. One teacher and three babies were injured in the accident. Our Lady Of Lourdes is looking to help those folks, along with helping to feed Acadiana's hungry for Thanksgiving.
