Congratulations are in order for two 2013 Teurlings High School graduates. Sunday was a historic day for Teurlings Catholic High School and the state of Louisiana as the team of Michael Carrier and Amelia Lormand won the first ever Duo Interpretation National Championship for a Louisiana school at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament in Philadelphia, PA.  The duo bested hundreds of other teams from throughout the country to claim the prestigious title.  The two seniors who graduated last week also won a state championship in April.

“To simply advance at this tournament is an accomplishment, but to win it is simply an amazing and unbelievable accomplishment,” said Amy Jones, Head Coach of Teurlings Speech and Debate.  ”Michael and Amelia worked hard for this.  Their dedication was unparalleled and they were the picture of dignity and grace in victory.  I couldn’t be more proud of how the represented their school, the city of Lafayette and the state of Louisiana.”
Carrier with attend Northwestern State University in the fall on a theater scholarship and Lormand will attend Tulane on an academic scholarship, where she intends to pursue a degree in medicine.
The National Catholic Forensic League was founded in 1951.  Based on the ideal of open membership, the NCFL welcomes membership to all schools, public and private, in the United States and Canada.
